Main Task - Research Into Different Magazine Genres

EMO/ROCK (KERRANG): the genre of this magazine is emo/rock. This is shown clearly by the style of the front cover, the image used the fonts used and layout of the magazine. This is the genre I am going to use for my task. I am going to use this genre because there are a lot of different magazines that are fit into it. Therefore it will be easy to find a lot of existing products to analyse and research. The target audience for this magazine would be anyone who is interested in this genre of music; there is no particular age of people that it is aimed at because there is a wide range of ages that may be interested in this kind of music.

R&B (VIBE): this magazine for the music genre r&b, this is made clear by the image and the content on the front cover. I am not going to use this genre of magazine for my task because I don’t think these types of magazines are as common as others and therefore this will make my research harder if there are not as many existing products. I want to choose a genre that I can do a lot of research into. The target audience for this type of magazine would be people who listen to and are interested in R&B music. There are a lot of artists connected to R&B music.

POP (TOP OF THE POPS): this is a ‘Top of the Pops’ magazine, the genre of this is pop. The cluttered look of the magazine, along with the many images and bright colours show the genre of the magazine, and make it easily recognisable to the target audience. The target audience would be people of any age who are interested in pop music, or artists connected to pop music. The masthead is mostly covered up, this is because the magazine is well established and people will be able to recognise it without seeing the whole thing. I am not going to use this genre for my main task.
